Phnom Penh Governor Orders Districts to Be Flood-Ready

PHNOM PENH: The Phnom Penh Capital Administration issued measures to address flooding and rescue efforts for those at high risk from floods of rivers, streams and flood-prone areas in Phnom Penh.

Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng instructed the 14 Khan administrations to collaborate with relevant authorities, especially Dangkor district, Kamboul district, Prek Pnov district, Russey Keo district, Chroy Changva district, and Chbar Ampov district to identify safe places for evacuation with toilets, clean water and electricity. 

Khuong Sreng advised authorities to be ready to transport vehicles, equipment, sandbags and food to help the flood victims and to be ready to conduct flood surveys to facilitate livelihood support and other social assistance needs.

The 15 district administrations must also mobilize philanthropists and the private sector to support the budget, materials and food to help people affected by the floods.

Phnom Penh authorities must also prepare vehicles, boats, ferries and other equipment to help rescue people affected by the floods.

The Department of Health was ordered to prepare health protection plans and health officials, ambulances, medical equipment and medicines to provide various health services to people in shelters.

The governor also called on residents along rivers to increase their vigilance by regularly monitoring water levels and staying prepared to evacuate with a plan for property and livestock.
